During his tenure as Chair of the National Governors Association (2022–2023), Gov. Phil Murphy elevated national attention on the youth mental health crisis. Before leaving office, he announced NJ’s Youth Mental Health Strategic Plan to continue this work.

New Jersey was awarded a federal mental health grant that will bring $5 million through 2029 to expand school mental health services, strengthen the school psychologist workforce, and support high-need and rural districts.

The State Assembly recently passed a bill allowing NJ’s Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs to accept donations for veteran suicide prevention, funding outreach like brochures and social media campaigns. NJ is home to nearly 300,000 veterans.
