I'm finally replaying Final Fantasy Tactics for the first time since the PS1 days - well, the new version, anyway!
Man, this game is just as good as I remember. No misses. My favorite is how enemies level up in battle, same as you, and do a happy dance. Like, congrats my dude, happy for u for real!

I do spend a surprising amount of time and energy defending Remake/Rebirth's localization because I generally believe intent and vibe are usually more important than literal machine translation.
