Yup machine has to be on when the posts are scheduled for launch (can docker compose down later, all data is persisted) but not necessarily online, localhost works. But gotta be careful keeping the laptop on during scheduled post times.

I went ahead with Postiz's free local self hosting, I have to say I'm impressed. The docker compose and api keys part is easy for me as I've worked with both quite a bit :) , will give Buffer a try too.

Buffer's free plan is great, if our focus is on 3 or less channels. Postiz's locally self hosted scheduler has no limits on platforms or number of posts scheduled at a time. The only catch is that one has to be comfy with docker compose and managing the api keys for all the platforms.
