This is a failure of the audit market - what was done by the Audit Commission was outsourced. Too few providers, very specialist work and not profitable. So here we are.
The NAO is disclaiming the Whole of Government Accounts for the first time ever. This is due to the severe backlogs in English local authority audits

Ran a councillor session this eve on the www.woking.gov.uk website we’re rebuilding (last update: 2008. Not joking). Aside from the apps and portal requests we were asked to build a councillor only chat room. Almost certain this is what was meant… 😊
