Actor, voiceover, podcaster. Real name @adamlsmith.bsky.social.
Actor / voiceover friends. I’m in the market for a new e-reader & I’m toying with either the Kindle Scribe or the Remarkable 2. Does anyone have any experience of either? I’d like to be able to markup scripts/pdfs of ebooks I’m narrating. Any thoughts welcome!

It would kill AI?! That feels like the reason this gif was invented.

Pay creative people what they deserve. Stop robbing them for the purposes of killing creative industries. Don’t use AI when an actual human can do it if you pay them.

Many years ago I was a small part of #TheThickOfIt. Back before I became persona non grata in the industry for having the temerity to be diagnosed with MS. It’s one of the shows I’m most asked about. Delighted to say Peter Capaldi was genuinely lovely & a very generous actor to work with.

Just finished #Adolescence. Bloody hell. An absolute tour de force. Everyone involved has absolutely smashed it. In complete awe.

Watched #TheElectricState last night and thought it was loads of fun. Don’t really understand why it’s been panned in some quarters.

If you’re a listener to @theanfieldwrap.bsky.social & thought @knoxharrington.bsky.social’s chat with Sam Wetherell about “Liverpool & the Unmaking of Britain” sounded interesting, check out the audiobook. There’s a strong chance you’ll recognise the reader….

Watching my billionth rewatch of The West Wing. In the wake of Sorkin’s departure, they struggled to get back on track but The Supremes is an excellent episode. To follow that up with an episode as….meh as Access takes some doing.

I am going to record an audiobook next week. My wife asked me what I’m doing today and I told her that I’m going to spend today finishing my pre-read to flag up any pronunciation issues etc. She asked if there was an audiobook version of it I could just listen to instead…. 🙈

Also, how on earth does this work for people like me? I’ve had roles in countless TV shows, so what happens if, say, Coronation Street producers say they’re fine with AI scraping their previous episodes? What about companies I’ve done VO work for? Can I opt-out of all things? It’s wild.
Didn’t realise you had to opt in to rights. I thought you got rights without filling in a form.

Just seen an advert for an AI company starring Idris Elba & I’m so disappointed. It’s going to kill aspects of this industry & to see such a massive star shilling for it feels…sad.

At this point it’s been said in a hundred different ways, so I think people are being intentional about not getting it.

My agent sends a weekly roundup of the number of breakdowns they’ve received & how many people they’ve been able to put up for roles and it’s so helpful. Gives a real insight into how busy (or quiet, as the case may be) the industry is.

Say Nothing in Disney Plus is excellent. I was worried the accents might be all over the place but, at least to my ear, they’re not. Only about four episodes in but really enjoying it. A relief as I loved the book, difficult as it was to read.

I’ve booked an audiobook job for January, which will be my first in a proper studio. I did one in my home studio a few years ago which was fun, but I’m already thinking of how I will need to protect my voice etc. should be easy enough post-Christmas 😬

Have made the jump from the other place and am looking forward to getting in touch with other #actors & #voiceovers. If that’s your community then give me a shout!
