We all love the twinkly piano scores in Miyazaki movies, but the funky synth score for Nausicaa is such a vibe

Just had the beautiful experience of showing my near-two year old My Neighbour Totoro. She doesn’t really sit and watch things so I was shocked when she locked in for the entire film. Maybe we will try Ponyo tomorrow night.

Watched the final January release, Illustrious Corpses earlier. Was really engrossing. Review below:

A ★★★★½ review of Illustrious Corpses (1976)

Just finished Youth of the Beast. Like all Suzuki films I had no clue what was going on half the time, but it looked great and Joe Shishido’s cheeks are GOATed.

My number 1 Radiance Film release of 2025: Rosa la Rose by Paul Vecchiali

The direction from Vecchiali is exceptional, he designs incredibly detailed and well choreographed long takes, full of swoops and pans that would rival Max Ophuls. The ensemble led by Marianne Basler are great also.

Please boutique labels, don’t make me watch Los Olvidados on YouTube again, we need a 4K special edition. This is my holy grail.

Top 3 Radiance Films recesses of 2025, number 2: Boy by Nagisa Oshima

I’m not sure if Ozu ever made a film about criminals, but if he did it would have looked a lot like this. Really beautiful film with a fantastic lead performance by child actor, Tetsuo Abe.

Top 3 Radiance Films releases of 2025, number 3: The Cat by Dominik Graf.

A brilliant slow burn heist film with excellent lead performances. Shocked that this was seemingly never remade by someone like Michael Mann.

Wonder when Americans will actually stand up to this fascism? From across the water it looks like straight pacifism, and we all know how that goes when it comes to dealing with bullies.

Still aiming to get this back up and running this month, for those who are in anyway interested.
After what has been a hectic 2025 for me personally, I am aiming to bring the Radiance Podcast back in 2026. In January I will do a 2025 recap episode before heading back to the usual monthly upload schedule discussing the latest announcements and releases.
