I love tech, travel, and helping others accomplish their goals. Thoughts here are my own and don't necessarily reflect that of the brand.
Amateur marketing agencies can easily detected by their push to blog in the local space. Signal to noise ratio is the key to success in every business. The focus should be on services and solutions clients need. If it doesn’t move the bottom line it’s a distraction from success.

OpenAI @perplexity00.bsky.social @anthropic.com Grok Google need to adhere to robots.txt for AI web agents (bot assistants). Saves for resources on all parts. A web condition needs to be added for bots by @w3c.bsky.social for AI agent ok (or not), index not ie unoriginal content in robots.txt.

We’re all just hoping W3C comes up with a protocol for all notifications so Google Chrome, Microsoft and Apple can patch this bad user experience at the browser.

Set browser to notify only on specific cookie types and ignore popup otherwise! No more social vampires

What are the best SEO sessions you’ve seen on AI integration and workflow efficiency lately? I see industry colleagues like @ianlurie.bsky.social and the like talking about it but not too many posts/slides. Could be because we are spread out across social media platforms lately.

An SEO audit without content intent direction is like leaving a hallucinating addict shouting random keywords. It’s awkward, forced, and people are going to leave. It’s organic SEO as both an art and a science. Your audience has changed, have you?

I love the annotation feature that was released. It would be super nice if we could flick a switch for known Google Updates that coincided with these. It’s that or third party script for it. I know most technical SEOs are thinking this.

It’s really odd seeing people recommend social bookmarking to manipulate search AI.

1) It has no lasting impact
2) It feels forced and spammy
3) 2007 called and wants their tactic back.

Many agencies push placement while ignoring the customer. SEO is and will continue to be people first. Google presently values experience and interactions almost equally as much as general ranking weights. A perfectly optimized website can tank in short order if the consumer doesn’t receive it well.
“I don’t care about how much content you produce or how quickly you can produce it, I care if people actually trust your brand.”

Being visible in AI / search doesn’t matter if “nobody believes you.”

Instant gratification has forced moats around attention. E-commerce platforms not only have their own significant cut of sales but their payment platforms driving up inflation on goods. This compounded with ad platforms that consolidated query intent to drive ad cost competition.

Google Local exact match queries remind me of early 2000’s Warez sites. The level of desperation to pump profits from what’s left of search is overwhelmingly pathetic. It’s not a search engine it’s a mobile warez site with some hints of organic results left 😆

It seems like some of our peers are suggesting the platform is generating a little more inertia. At this point all these social media platforms feel a bit like one would if trying to herd feral cats. Engagement being key rather than political.

"Social Bookmarking" and PBNs for what's otherwise lacking in general discernment in LLMs. Professional terminology in marketing would be "Placed media," which is in an appropriately ranked location that's useful to relevant audiences. www.seoforlunch.com/p/llm-pbns
Panda/Penguin were so 2000, Bruh. Long live LLM PBNs!

Links aren't irrelevant; crawling is based on them. The sources and their interpreted meaning from the entities have. It boils down to better disclosure and critical thinking from reasoning models. UGC to sources reminds me of early social bookmarking in 07. Now we have PR spam for AI.

To display in AI overviews, you'll want complete answers, but in a succinct format (bulleted and using schema markup, even). Gain a lot of PR for that content from questionable, low-quality PR links (don't do that), and voilà, you have AI overviews. #SEO
Google is attempting to find reliable sources for AI Overviews with brand and product mentions from a variety of sources. It showed favouritism to a limited few known for affiliate schemes and has diversified to spammy sources. It's a good effort, but frankly, satisfactory. #SEO

This essentially reinforces what I've been saying on last click, last call, hyper-focused content and local review velocity:

43% of AIO link results are incestuous, and when it comes to GBP, only about 30% of your leads are likely to come from your website.
