Mortágua, leader of the Left-wing Bloc (BE), resigned after the poor electoral results of the Portuguese radical left in the last two legislative elections: 2024- 4.36%, 5 MPs; 2025-1.99%, 1 MP, but the electoral decline has little to do with leadership.The new left party, Livre, helped the burial.

Local elections in Portugal: A shift to the right, but in favor of the center-right rather than the radical right. The Socialist Party came in second, recovering well of its heavy defeat in this year's legislative elections. The radical right had meager results but consolidated a national structure.

Even if it wins few municipalities, the Portuguese radical right-wing party, CHEGA, will consolidate a national structure in these local elections in Portugal, as I state in this Guardian article.
