Westwood Blvd at Rochester is still very much a designated pedestrian enhanced district under Mobility 2035 which the city is legally obligated to implement when it does any road improvements thanks to HLA (which Karen Bass has responded to by stopping all road improvements)

However thanks to enemy-of-the-city Paul Koretz the segment between Wilshire and Santa Monica Blvd was removed from the bike lane network for no-logical reason whatsoever (it was deemed bad for business, unlike cars killing your customers while they shop in your store, which is fine)

There was once a plan to run a bus lane and a protected bicycle lanes down Westwood Boulevard. It might have been one of Los Angeles' great promenades. Instead, NIMBYs killed the proposal, and now it's a round-the-clock car sewer where people randomly die in extremely violent ways.

In 2024 Oakland implemented a 4 car lane to 1 car lane road diet on 13th St in Downtown using only paint. It’s not perfect but this relatively cheap change has helped a lot w speeding.

The perpendicular Webster corridor is the same width & needs a similar update ASAP.

remember, NIMBYism is subject to the categorical imperative: oppose in your backyard only what could rightly be opposed in anyone's backyard

there is no appropriate location for concentration camps, so NIMBYism is not only okay but morally correct!
I feel very strongly that now is the time for NIMBY’s to shine. Every regulatory and procedural lever should be tested. Slow them down.
NEW: ICE has spent at least $172 million this month on warehouses that it plans to convert into immigration jails

We are seeing ordinary citizens — a children’s face painter and a doctor — come forth with sworn affidavits to describe the killing of the Minneapolis nurse.

In case you were wondering what courage looks like.

It’s no secret I have a lot of love for Minnesota. Minneapolis shaped me more than I can probably ever truly express. If you are looking for a way to help the good people of Minnesota and aren’t there, there are a ton of good ways you can support the work on the ground there financially

WHY ARE THEY SENDING WITNESSES TO WHIPPLE?

Republicans could end this it any time and I think every single Republican member of Congress should be asked daily why they continue to allow this. They are cowards who want to destroy our country and should have to carry that shame.
Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

BTW this is one reason why we absolutely need swift justice and extremely harsh sentencing for rogue federal agents. These people only understand force and punishment. Nothing else will get through to them.
The reason why ICE agents keep trying to deter resistance through threats of violence—even though these threats and the violence itself have had the opposite effect—is because they’re such cowards that they can’t even understand the psychology of non-cowards.

This is such a slam dunk of a bill. Gestapo members should not be allowed to join local police departments. Please contact your legislators and urge them to sign on!
This bill by a Washington State Democratic legislator would prevent any law enforcement agency in the state from hiring anyone employed as a sworn ICE officer after January 20, 2025. A good start, I say. Make them outcasts.

This something I want people to understand. If you don’t get their names, they’re just gone. There’s no arrest record and the snatch-and-grabs can last seconds. People simply disappear and we can’t find out who they are or what happened to them.
They seem to be making a habit of it.

There’s no point during the detention of a five-year-old that any person with a functioning moral center would not step back to reassess the situation and their place in it. That nobody involved did proves they lack the common interiority required to successfully coexist in ordered society.
