Find a way to work some movement in every day and 2-3 times a week work in 20-40 minutes of something that challenges you. Going to the gym or doing a class is great, but body weight exercises are a great start. It will change how aging feels for you. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

Hearing from people that are struggling with their mobility has been one of the most sobering parts of posting videos over the past few years. When we have it it’s so easy to take it for granted. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

The strength we gain from exercise makes life easier to navigate. It also reminds us that we’re able to handle challenging stuff. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

Things happen all of the time that are out of our control. I think that increases the importance of working on the things that are within our control. Figuring out a way to work 20-30 minutes of resistance training in even just a coupe of times a week will change how aging feels.

Learning what the hip hinge feels like can help improve our mobility, allow us to safely pick up heavier things and save us from a lot of lower back issues. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck #hiphinge

Sometimes the difference between something being impossible and doable is just figuring out how to shift your weight differently or how to get better leverage. If this is impossible start by working on leg strength. Chair sit to stands are great starting point. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

I hear from a lot of people when I’m putting my foot up on a high stool or carrying a weight barefoot or doing step ups on a higher platform. Learning to focus and be present is a valuable skill to learn. #bethere #agingshouldntsuck

Be careful about the assumptions and the long term limitations that you put on yourself. A lot can change when we’re deliberate about improving our strength and mobility. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

I was ready to swap my knee for a new one years ago but a combination of PRP, stem cells and both physical therapy and resistance training have given me a new relationship with my knee. It’s not the answer for everyone but it worked in my case.

I gained a greater appreciation for how important resistance training can be for tissue repair and the rehab process. I had babied my hamstring forever and it just wasn’t getting better and once I started loading it the progress surprised me. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

We have to find ways to challenge our bodies without wrecking them. It’s tempting to avoid exercise when we’ve had an injury but our bodies need the stimulus of resistance to fully heal. We want to avoid becoming like the abandoned house that slowly falls apart. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

It’s extremely important that we find ways to build strength that isn’t painful. Pushing through pain doesn’t serve us well. I know that if I’m pushing myself hard I may get real uncomfortable and I’m ok with that but pain is a sign to adjust what I’m doing. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

The best way to improve your mobility is to start working on leg and core strength and balance. As those improve it’s easier to make progress on mobility. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck #abalancedyou

I’ve built an assortment of kettlebells, a few dumbbells and some resistance bands over the years but a sand bag or a duffle bag filled with books or magazines can provide workout options. If you’re just starting out, a gallon jug of water weighs 8 pounds. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

I know that some of the exercises that I do aren’t doable for everyone, but virtually everyone can find something they can do to start getting stronger. It will have a dramatic impact on how aging feels. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #exercisesnacks

I definitely lost strength after my shoulder replacement and I’ve been working to regain it, but even just being out for a couple of weeks because of getting my butt kicked by the flu made a noticeable change in my strength. Build your strength savings account while you can. #agingshouldntsuck

When something hurts we often avoid using it and instead we need to be able to find ways to safely load the area. Our bodies need appropriate stress and stain to recover. Good physical therapy saves a lot of time and aggrevation. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #abalancedyou

Mobility is easy to take for granted but it’s eye opening when you feel it start to fade. The good news is that as long as we’re still breathing we can work on rebuilding strength and capacity. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #exercisesnacks #abalancedyou

Once you start looking for it you’ll find plenty of opportunities to work exercise into your daily routine. Going to the gym is great but don’t ignore the chance to push yourself a little outside of the gym. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks
