🕰️ With the year coming to an end, we asked a selection of Poetry Review contributors to give us their favourite poetry books and pamphlets of 2025.
Andre Bagoo recommends Love is a Dangerous Word, edited by John Keene and Robert F. Reid-Pharr; poetry by Essex Hemphill and says: When I first saw Isaac Julien's 1989 film Looking for Langston, I fell in love with two poets: Langston Hughes, the film's focus, and Essex Hemphill, the Chicago-born American poet whose writing is memorably placed in dialogue with Hughes. Love is a Dangerous Word is a rich selection from Hemphill's work, whose terse lines betray their charge.

I finally got my hands on my contributor’s copy of NATURE MATTERS, edited by Mona Arshi and Karen McCarthy Woolf.

My poem takes us to a small Ti Marie or touch-me-not plant growing at the centre of the Queen’s Park Savannah, just before it shuts to the touch.
