Hi everyone! Thanks for your patience while we put together an updated rule regarding "Dead Dove" content. We hope this update provides a more comprehensive rule, and clarifies any questions there may have been. 🫶🏻

The Dead Dove: Do Not Eat tag is a traffic sign used to inform a viewer/reader that the tags following it will be explicitly included in the work being viewed/read. It is NOT a tag used to mean “This is a dark work”. It’s from a moment in S1ep2 of Arrested Development, and came into use a little over a decade ago in fandom spaces. On the show, a character, Michael, sees a bag with “Dead Dove Do Not Eat” in his fridge. He opens it, sees a dead dove, and says “I don't know what I expected”. Thus, the tag’s meaning. It can be used on all types of works, regardless of what they’re about, but it’s most often included on works that explore sensitive or “heavy” topics, as these works often require tags people need to pay attention to. As works tagged with “Dead Dove” can include difficult emotions, triggering subjects, and sometimes uncomfortable topics, we want to ensure people have the freedom to choose which works they engage with. Therefore, the topics on the following list MUST: - be tagged with #deaddovedonoteat, #deaddove, or #dddne AND - the appropriate tag from the topic list AND - utilize a “teaser” method of posting. The tags must be included above the teaser. Any works including a topic from the list that are not tagged and teased will be temporarily removed from the AAVJ Week collection with a request to the creator to repost with the tag and teaser.
