Trying out Medium for future blog posts. I like the layout much better than the Blogger site I was using. I don't plan to paywall anything either, if you're interested in my writing I want you to be able to read it. medium.com/@amccollum.d...

Just finished "Learning How to Learn" on Coursera. It was pretty fascinating to learn more about how the brain processes new information and how to learn more efficiently.

Excited for the fall > spring schedule for MLS. I think it's the right thing to match the season with the rest of the global calendar. #mls

The Steam Machine looks really awesome. It feels like this is what Xbox is (was?) wanting to be with "Xbox anywhere." But Steam has more history and games than Xbox ever could.

Read this article yesterday. A great primer on VPNs for anyone interested.
When you think about online privacy, two tools may come to mind: VPNs & proxies. While they both hide your IP address & let you browse the net more privately, they work differently. Here, Manish explains the differences + how each tool works to help you choose.

Active recall and spaced repetition being two of the best ways to learn is new to me. I was always team-reread and team-highlight (and got by well enough I suppose). Going to give this a shot though.

Okay Browns postgame show (92.3 the fan) if you don't like people saying folks should be fired, quit taking calls. Not that hard. Especially after losses. You don't like criticism of the team? Stop taking calls or stop moaning about it. #Browns

It sucks but yet another "clean house" offseason probably should happen. This FO killed themselves with the Watson trade and they can't get out. We'll be drafting high, so if we go QB we surely need to get a new coach in. This team is a joke to watch right now. #Browns

Great article, probably ~5-10 minute read.
When you and your team are just trying to finish a feature, maybe you make a quick fix and say - "we'll fix it later". But then you don't. This is an example of technical debt in your code. Here, Manish explains what it is, why it happens, & how to deal with it.

I've started unfollowing the folks on LinkedIn who write blog-length status updates about AI every day. I'm not anti-AI but let's stop with the attempt of being a thought-leader when it's not needed every. single. day.

Re-did my personal site today. Mostly in HTML/CSS but with a little JS to help with the resume download. It's not quite finished, I still need to add some stuff to the Home page and tweak a few things. But overall, pretty happy. aaronmccollum.github.io/personal-site/
