Following on from the dramatic 91 Cup Final tomorrow’s episode of @spursnostalgiapod.bsky.social is an interview with the brilliant John Sheridan who discussed his own sacrifices in getting Gazza fit. John also spoke about the chaos at the club in the late 80s and his own unique career as a physio.

On this Spurs day in 1994...With Ossie gone Gerry Francis takes the team for the first time.

The performance and outcome so poignantly Ossie as we fall to a 90th minute winner from Saunders having valiantly chased a winner ourselves having fought back from 3-0 down!

I’ll be recording @spursnostalgiapod.bsky.social season 1 finale episode later with @notthatmilo.bsky.social and @damejulie.bsky.social as we explore the seismic moment when Sugar sacked Venables in 1993.

What are your memories of that episode and what unanswered questions do you have?

In this build up to this weeks NLD here’s footage from this day in 1995 of a 2-1 home win v Arsenal.

It was Armstrong’s coming of age moment as he scored the winner. Gerry Francis was adamant that he was a better striker partner for Teddy than Bergkamp (who also scored).

One of the few advantages of being over 40 years old is that you're more likely to remember Spurs playing in an FA Cup Final!

I've released my latest podcast episode during the international break 'shoulder'. Listen to it here as we relive 1991 FA Cup Final success!

New episode out now

This week we discuss "the Tottenham Way". What is the Tottenham Way? What does it mean to us? Should we always play it that way? Does it ever hamper us? And do other clubs have a "way"?

On this Spurs day in 1984…rarely seen footage of this 3-0 win at Ipswich including another Glenn Hoddle masterpiece 😮

Our away form had been patchy so far that season but we went 15 league games on the run unbeaten after this as we went so close to winning the league.

On this Spurs day in…1996

An unedifying return to WHL for Paul Stewart as he’s sent off for Sunderland in our 2-0 win. Andy Sinton scored his first goal for us - and what a goal it was! Teddy scored the second but missed ANOTHER penalty!

1-0 down at home to Luton midway through the 2nd half. Crowd restless and then two things happen:
1. The floodlights fail and the game is stopped
2. Scott Houghton - out young winger comes on to make his name!

No Spurs games from this date in the 90s and no footage of the 2 games from the 80s so instead here’s the 1991 Semi-Final instead!

On this Spurs day in 1998
Our new manager George Graham took us to Highbury where he was roundly booed.
True to character he oversaw a stoic 0-0 with Espen Baardsen our man of the match.

Did any part of you welcome Graham’s appointment?

How highly did you rate Baardsen?

Looking to indulge in some glorious Spurs nostalgia? Make sure you listen to today's released podcast about the 1991 FA Cup Semi-Final...the last one we won...but what an afternoon!

Nayim and @danielwynne.bsky.social joined me to reflect.

NEW EPISODE OUT - a dissection of the 1991 FA Cup Semi-Final.

My huge thanks to @danielwynne.bsky.social and Nayim for joining me to relive my greatest (if not anxiety ridden) afternoon as a Spurs fan! To some extent my childhood is built around those 2-hours!

On this Spurs day in 1988...
We climb off the bottom of the table with a 3-2 win v Wimbledon. One of the best stories I uncovered in my book came from Guy Butters who scored our second, on his WHL debut!
The game is infamous for the shocking challenge by Jones on Stevens.

What specific Spurs match from the past is your reference point for the most fluent and beautiful to watch team performance and win (not merely functional)?

Doesn't matter whether the match, and its result were significant.

My go-to is Ipswich away in August 94:

Which of the 91 Semi-Final or Final do you remember the most fondly? If you could relive one of those days which would it be?

Both games are covered individually in my next two podcasts coming in the next week with player and supporter reflections.

On this Spurs day in…1998.

It’s the lesser mentioned cup win at Anfield in the 90s. Nielsen, Scales and Iversen all score first half goals to give us a 3-0 HT lead at beleaguered Liverpool.

Unlike in 95 this Anfield win saw us go on to win the competition that season.

Can’t find any footage 🤷‍♂️
November 10, 2025 at 8:06 AM
On this day in…1990 it’s the height of Gazzamania - he’d appeared on Wogan, turned on the Oxford St Xmas lights and had his waxwork model made at Madame Tussaud’s ahead of this 4-2 win over Wimbledon. As well as assisting 2 of our goals he also set up one of theirs!

On this Spurs day in 1988...

Paul Stewart scored an extra-time winner in this 2-1 League Cup replay at 2nd division Blackburn. Guy Butters made his debut but scored an unfortunate OG! (More on Guy to come this week!)

It surprised me that Man U switched us around for KO. Surely the idea is that it unsettles a home team usual rhythm - if they knew anything about our home form you’d think the last thing they’d want to do was unsettle our rhythm 🤷‍♂️
When I’ve looked at this before it makes no statistical difference.

On this Spurs day in...1997

Gerry Francis managed us for the final time in this 4-0 defeat at Anfield:
youtu.be/-bSr22erY7M?... He resigned a few days later. Ironic that his final game was at the same venue as his greatest result as Spurs manager in 95.

How do you reflect on his period in charge?
November 8, 2025 at 9:56 PM
Well they will find new ways to disappoint us wont they! Maybe the bar has just been set so low but I could appreciate the intention today - several missed attempts to play through the lines.
Looked much better when Udogie came on and provided better left-sided balance.
