December 18th 1962 - The Beatles return to Hamburg, Germany for the fifth and final time*, where they will play a twelve night run at The Star Club. In April, 1977, thirty tracks recorded at the venue would appear as the album, "Live! at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962"

On the 17th of December 1968, being already one of the most popular bands of the international rock scene, The Who played their last gig at the Marquee Club. The night was announced as "the Who's Xmas" Party and introducing "A Great New Group", which was Yes.

December 17th 1965 Gig History: The Supremes and Judy Garland were in concert at the new Houston Astrodome in Texas. Judy Garland was paid $43,000 for the one show.

The Astros played the 1965 baseball season there and opened on April 9, 1965 with an exhibition game against the Yankees.

December 17th 1969, Thanks to play on freeform FM radio stations, Chicago Transit Authority's self-titled debut album goes Gold, eight months after its release. For their next album, the band shortens their name to Chicago, due to threatening legal action from the CTA.

Dec 16th 1966 - Polydor Records releases Jimi Hendrix's first single, "Hey Joe". The record made it to number 6 in the UK, but failed to chart at all in America. He followed with "Purple Haze", "The Wind Cries Mary", "All Along the Watchtower" and "Voodoo Chile", all of which made the British Top 10

December 15th 1969 - Eric Clapton joined John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band as part of Peace for Christmas, a benefit concert for UNICEF at the Lyceum Ballroom, in London. George Harrison, Delaney And Bonnie, Billy Preston and The Who's drummer, Keith Moon also took part.

Dec 15 1968 - While performing with the Jefferson Airplane on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, Grace Slick appears in blackface and raises a black-leather glove in a power salute after "Crown of Creation". The incident is one of several which leads to the show's cancellation the following season.

The Who release their third studio album, "The Who Sell Out". Fake radio commercials are inserted between the tracks, which brought about a number of lawsuits. The LP would chart at #13 in the UK and #48 in the US

December 15th 1967 The Beach Boys meet Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Paris at Palais de Chaillot and learn transcendental meditation. Mike Love would later muse, "If enough people were to learn to meditate, it would be an entirely different world, meaning world peace, prosperity and health."

Dec 15 1967 - Just a few days after it was released, The Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour" LP goes Gold. It would top the Billboard Hot 200 chart for 8 weeks and receive a Grammy nomination for Best Album. The disc would be certified Platinum on December 26th, 1991 and 6X Platinum on July 25th, 2000.

December 13th 1966, Jimi Hendrix, who is quickly gaining momentum in England, makes his first UK TV appearance when he performs on Ready Steady Go. (Marc Bolan was also on the show). The Jimi Hendrix Experience also recorded 'Foxy Lady' on this day.

December 13th 2025 Happy 77th Birthday David 'Davy' O'List! Guitarist, vocalist and trumpeter. He has played with The Attack, The Nice, Roxy Music (before being replaced by Phil Manzanera), and Jet (replaced by Ian Macleod). He was also briefly in Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd.

December 13 1962 - Elvis Presley had his 13th UK #1 single with "Return To Sender". Fans mailed envelopes franked with first-day issues of the new Elvis stamp to fictitious addresses so that they would receive their letters back, marked with the words "return to sender"!

Remembering Dec 12 1941, #BOTD, Terry Kirkman, vocals, The Association, who scored the 1966 hit 'Cherish', and the 1967 US No.1 single 'Windy'. In the years following his departure from The Association, Kirkman retired from the music industry and worked in California as an addictions counselor.

December 12th 1963 - "John Fitzgerald Kennedy: A Memorial Album" becomes the fastest selling LP in history with four million copies being sold in the first six days after its release. The disc contains recordings of some of the President's most memorable speeches, as well as memorial tributes.
