Rush - Rush (1974)

The Canadian progressive trio’s first album is filled with big riffs and heavy songs . Lifeson’s playing here is old school heavy metal at times , as are Geddy Lee’s soaring vocals and bass lines backed by renowned drummer Neil Peart.

Neu! - Neu! (1972)

bit of everything on this strange krautrock classic . tracks like “Hallogallo” introduce the Motorik beat , “Negativland” lays down an eerie early take on post-punk and other songs create soundscapes . Conny Plank produced it, possible top 5 contender for me

entering the top 5 , anything from here could have been number 1

#5. Smashing Pumpkins - Today

I thought about going with something from Mellon Collie but I feel like this one is an era defining classic and the second chorus hits with a super heavy atmosphere.

I hate metal culture , as a whole it’s geared towards people who don’t like music and are looking for a hangout. 99 percent of the people into it are either hardline conservative truck drivers or ex-Pentecostal gnostic Catholic mystic types who likely don’t even listen to the bands they rep

One of the best , if not the best songs from Weezer’s acclaimed sophomore effort, which itself is easily a top 5 all time album.

Scorpions - Lonesome Crow (1972)

Scorpions’ first album , produced by Conrad “Conny” Plank (as was the previously mentioned Kraftwerk 1,) includes more extended track lengths with studio experimentation than their later albums , in addition to a dark and riff-heavy sound.
