100 Histories in 100 Worlds in 1 Object
@100histories.bsky.social
The Global South revisits the BBC/British Museum's A History of the World in 100 Objects. A dynamic decolonial grassroots project.

1 Object tells 100 Histories of 100 Worlds.

https://100histories100worlds.org/
How many stories can a museum object tell? How can they end up on a museum label? Will there be enough space? Who decides which stories to tell?

100 Histories goes to Paris tomorrow. Pleased to see that many museum professionals have signed up for the workshop that will take place before the talk.
Looking forward to returning to ENS Paris @normalesup.bsky.social in collaboration with Sorbonne @inha.fr for a workshop on the museum label 🏛️.

Yep. Wait until you see the storerooms..."It was in a series of immense new warehouses on the outskirts [...] that I began to have some dim feel of the scale of the collection – though it seems impossible that any single human mind could contain the whole of it." www.theguardian.com/culture/2025...
‘The ghosts are everywhere’: can the British Museum survive its omni-crisis?
Beset by colonial controversy, difficult finances and the discovery of a thief on the inside, Britain’s most visited museum is in deep trouble. Can it restore its reputation?

Happy to see two of my projects featured in the advent calendar! @100histories.bsky.social tells previously hidden histories of museum objects - some of them might also have been hidden in storage.

Over the next weeks we will be posting global histories as told by voices of the Global South for our new Followers. How can the story of the Akan Drum be told as one of a living object, beyond the British Museum's History of the World in 100 Objects version? 100histories100worlds.org/the-akan-drum/

2. Restitution of objects is about repair, about understanding context, rethinking assumptions about who knows and how to interpret objects. It's about who produces knowledge and to what effect.

Hello #Museums people! Welcome to Bluesky. The starter pack you need is here - a list of UK museum folk. I've done my best to keep up with requests but please let me know if you or anyone you know has arrived and wants to be added. 60-ish slots left so there is room!

We also don't officially work on Fridays but sometimes the Cultural Zeitgeist doesn't wait 👍
