Qui sap quin era el desig polític del president del govern espanyol, Pedro Sánchez, mentre es menjava el raïm de Cap d’Any, però no seria estrany que el verb resistir hi hagués aparegut (de nou). El 2...

Des de Molló estant, bona entrada d’any a tothom!

D'aquí poc (o això esperem!) traurem alguna altra cosa que pinta un panorama un xic més optimista. Hi ha maneres de fer canviar la gent de parer.

Thanks! I love your Christmas reading list 😃

publicar un nou article sempre és bona cosa! (malgrat que les conclusions de l'article no sempre siguin bones).

But we have not tested *all* ways to show projections and scenarios, so the question is still valid. Thanks for the interest!

Could be. We tested several projections, and we got the same results. Some of the projections included in the article are based on real-world data and used by international organisations and climate agencies.

We have a working paper on the València DANA and the results are also similar.

This article is part of the Attclimate project. See what we do attclimate.net @politiquesupf.bsky.social @upf.edu

😱“Fear appeals” or optimistic projections alone may not be enough to mobilise public support for climate change policies. We need alternative strategies to engage people in climate action.

📊We used experiments to test how exposure to different future climate scenarios affects public support for climate initiatives.

➡️The results? Exposure to these scenarios had no significant effect on people's willingness to support or fund climate action.

🌍🔥 Does showing people the future of climate change, whether dire or hopeful, actually change their willingness to act or pay for solutions?

Bon Nadal!🥂

Over the last 10 years, politicisation of climate change increased mostly in Western Europe, where climate consciousness increased more on the left, and for left-wing party voters, than on the right www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

As climate change became more important to voters and political parties in the late 2010s in Europe, this paper asks whether aspects of public opinion on the issue also became more politicised, in ...

Our findings are important to understand some dynamics in societies where two languages unequally compete in the public sphere.

Spanish’s dominance shapes trust. Catalan's subordinated status shows how unequal language competition affects how people evaluate others (5/n)

➡️Standard Catalan and standard Spanish consistently generated higher trust than their non-standard varieties, especially among in-group listeners.

➡️Individuals with a strong Spanish national identity reacted more negatively to the use of the language of ‘the other side’. (4/n)

🎙️Inspired by the matched-guise strategy in sociolinguistics, we designed an experiment using recorded audio clips in both Spanish and Catalan, each featuring subtle linguistic varieties.

📊We then embedded these recordings into a survey. (3/n).

📚The historian Josep Fontana wrote that even General Prim (a Spanish general and a Spanish Prime Minister) was judged by many Spaniards for his "terrible Catalan accent".

🗣️But does accent still matter today?

We decided to empirically test it. (2/n)
