🕊️ Alpine farmland is losing its biodiversity.
New research shows:
✅ Natural habitats & habitat diversity help #birds thrive
❌ Intensification fragments landscapes & harms ecosystems
🌍 #Conservation must scale across landscapes

Happy to be part of this paper: esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/... We present a new classification-occupancy model for automatically identified species data, including a step-by-step guide to fit it to your own data. Relevant for everyone working with e.g. ecoacoustic data!
A classification‐occupancy model based on automatically identified species data
Occupancy models estimate a species' occupancy probability while accounting for imperfect detection, but often overlook the issue of false-positive detections. This problem of false positives has gai...

Tomorrow will be eBird's Global Big Day: ebird.org/globalbigday
In my paper, I analyzed how COVID-19 lockdowns affected biodiversity data collection. It was interesting to see how, even during lockdown, data collection skyrocketed during eBird Big Days in some countries (Costa Rica in the figure).

Decreases in biodiversity data volumes correlated with declines in visitation to parks and outdoor areas, and were significantly larger in developing countries compared to developed ones, likely due to the disrupted influx of international visitors.

Happy to share our new paper! www.nature.com/articles/s41... Five years ago around this time, most people were entering the first COVID-19 lockdown. We analyzed how these restrictions affected the amount of biodiversity data collected during the lockdown, using data from @gbif.org
