My recent research on masculinity, social connection and emotion. Men more disconnected than women, and the answer isn't just to 'rely on family'. Men need more positive connections and 'allowable vulnerability' with other men - not just more 'bro culture'

‘Happy wives, happy social lives?’ Men are more emotionally disconnected than women – what can be done about it?
A decade of data shows Australian men appear to focus their emotional energies primarily on their nuclear families and partners.

Marius Grose's new poem 'The Oasis at 3am' in Authora Australis Issue 9 'Cracks'

'they suckled and took, what you would give them
brothers with wounds they covered with leather
wounded brother in leather on the dance floor
a catch in the throat your lullaby'

Happy to support your work Carmella, thanks for trusting us with the work #Poem #PoetrySky #PoetryCommunity
Thrilled to learn I will have a poem featured within the next issue of Authora Australis!
Looking forward to the release of this, as it's one of my most beloved poems, and also because the journal reads all entries blind.
Many thanks to the editors for homing this piece.❤️

Nice work Ellen, good way to start the day with a dawn poem #Poem #PoetrySky #PoetryCommunity
I have a poem published in Issue 9 of @ausauthora.bsky.social The theme was ‘Cracks’, and at the time I was waking up extremely early in the morning, so naturally I wrote poems about dawn. Hope you enjoy it! #Poem #PoetrySky #PoetryCommunity

The typhoon here in Hong Kong is slowly stripping the nylon mesh off the buildings under repair. Just hope the scaffolding doesn’t go next! Lots of debris flying through the air - leaves, paper, mesh strips - but so far no loose pipes of bamboo!

Cheers Jonathan!

Calling all Inner West Sydney pub folk - if you're a fan of the Henson Hotel being pokie free, turn up to the Henson tomorrow and protest their sneaky decision to bring back poker machines - seriously guys? Albo's favourite local pub advertised as 'proudly pokie free' for how many years now??

Welcome!

Sunset on Lamma

Yung Shue Wan - so nice in the afternoon

Worse places to be than Lamma Island 😊

It’s been an interesting experience trying to understand the differences properly. Teaching Urban sociology and learning more about the history of Hong Kong this semester has helped a lot

Definitely agree

Mong Kok markets today in HK - feels like it could be the last or the future

From study: "...users who post false news more likely to engage with corrections they receive, particularly from co-partisans."

How are you James?

Yeah one of the better places - the Shing Mun river near Sha Tin. Pretty nice spot for a walk or run

She local kids just pulled this out of the Shing Mun River. Creating quite a stir

Good to have a moment by the river to think - crossroads sign seems apt for general life and times right now

VerseFest Ottawa: an exquisite mix of poetry & society. love for all the readers/performers/ organizers & all the folk who i had meaningful conversations with over libations or simply standing in the venues together, awkwardly early, chatting & trying not to get in the way. i love you poets.

I there evidence to back up claims like this - credible studies showing ideological bias, how widespread, where and in what areas and specialisations? I would have thought corporate funded right-wing think tanks would be all over this, if this was the case

Good bit of analysis here. Trump's chaotic approach to introducing, repealing, and reintroducing tariffs may undermine exactly the business confidence needed for big US auto to invest in re-shoring - and bring on a recession instead of creating jobs
