Appreciated the opportunity to reflect on what forms the core of my teaching philosophy as I prepare for the start of another academic year. Sometimes, what you were interested in during graduate education can become a through line for your academic life.

A new academic year looms. In the spirit of fostering metacognition, consider having your students complete a self-assessment of their study styles, note-taking skills, or more. This takes the work out of it for you -- students automatically get information about responses. Try it. lnkd.in/gfawUWzC

Most heartwarming for me is how students rise up challenges and actually seemed to thrive. Last day pictures here. I LOVE THESE SMILING FACES. Students know that we faculty so enjoy working with you and miss you when class is done.

HAPPY SUMMER ALL !!!

Here's a "thrival" guide I created for my own intro cog psych class, using PowerPoint (modeled after @reganargurung.bsky.social's more artistic version).

If you find it useful, I made a PPT file available here (tinyurl.com/ym8mkamj) so that you could create a thrival thrival guide of your own.

A new year end tradition: @oregonstate Dept. Food Science and Technology Beaver Classic Creamery ice cream party for the #ASCLab !!! So glad to have a great team. All the best for finals Oregon State University. Great way to celebrate the last day of classes.

"When I got back to class (after presenting at the symposium), I JUST FELT SMARTER." Yes, helping students to present takes time and energy but one need do no more than listen to them after it to see why we need to do it more.

Just back from the WPA conference and it was EPIC. A refreshing reminder of how many enthusiastic, hardworking, and conscientious students there are. SO PROUD of my Lab @oregonstate.edu . Set a PR- 20 students from my lab attended and we gave 4 talks, presented3 symposia, and had 17 posters!!!!

Excited for #WPA2025 kicking off soon. The #asclab worked hard and has numerous posters, talks, and symposia. Interested in what we do? Come by and chat!! Looking forward to a busy and intellectually stimulating conference and so proud of lab's strong work!!

Will giving your students a 48-hour buffer on assignments increase procrastination or result in lower grades? Not necessarily so!!! This just out, our assessment of the effects of an easy way for students to get extensions, and a buffer.
