A new study shows that pesticides can harm bee pollination — but that diverse flowering plants can reduce these negative effects. In contrast, realistic levels of microplastics had no detectable impact on pollination or crop yield. @cscherber.bsky.social

What helps pollinators cope with human pressures? Supporting flower diversity in agricultural landscapes can benefit both pollinators and food production. #LIBresearch

Welcome to BES2025! 💫

Today, we are so excited to welcome ecologists from 58 countries, encouraging innovative research and practice in ecology.

We have exciting talks and sessions ahead in the next days from agriculture, human's place in nature, AI to green finance and much more.
Nun ist es wohl offiziell, der Grünlandschmetterlings-Indikator wird nicht verpflichtend in die Nationale Wiederherstellungsverordnung in Deutschland aufgenommen. 😔🦋

Toward a global repository of insect traits (GRIT)
Biodiversity loss is accelerating, yet insect conservation is hindered by the absence of a centralised, comprehensive trait database. We propose the GRIT, a FAIR, open-access platform uniting datase...

Why does the Soil Monitoring matter?

Check out our NGO letter to EU ambassadors, sent ahead of the discussions and vote among Member States today, where we urged EU countries to take a strong stand on the Soil Monitoring Law:

Letter to EU Ambassadors ahead of the upcoming Coreper meeting on the Soil Monitoring Law
In the lead-up to Coreper discussions on the Soil Monitoring Law, seven NGOs urge EU Ambassadors to take a strong and decisive position in support of the law. The Council needs to act as a responsible...

Air pollution fell substantially as the city restricted car traffic and made way for parks and bike lanes.

Not exaggerating when I say I would like a personal, handwritten apology from every pundit who barfed out a dozen "the left wants to change the way you talk!" op-eds based on non-mandatory guidelines in obscure PDFs.

Despite an apparent ceasefire and claims of a "spectacular military success," the question remains: Why did Trump really bomb Iran?

Here's my view.

It's for a book I am currently writing, get in touch if you have any photographs or would like to point me towards your favorite study.

I'm searching for primary papers&photographs from field experiments in terrestrial ecology on the following topics:
-pollution experiments (e. g.light, noise, information pollution)
-habitat fragmentation experiments
-whole ecosystem&natural experiments (e.g.volcanic eruptions BACI design etc.)

Thank you so much. How important!
