Cameron Richard Donaldson is a Scottish economist who is Emeritus Yunus Chair at Glasgow Caledonian University, the University for the Common Good. From 2010 to 2023, Cam held the Yunus Chair at GCU, and, from 2016 to 2021, was Pro Vice Chancellor Research there, during which time Glasgow Caledonian became the first university to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals as the framework for its Research Strategy. 3% pa real terms increases in NHS spend is welcome. Many prestigious NHS reviews have called for this. BUT reviews did not factor in deserved pay hikes & highlighted necessity of matched increases for social care, without which NHS gridlock will continue. Still trouble ahead?

Last saw him at York Arts Centre in 1984 (I think!). Rianne Downey & band brilliant too as were the Zutons, last seen by us at Loch Lomond in 2005 (we think!).

Responses to Audit Scotland report claim (unspecified) reforms to NHS in Scotland are urgent. Reminiscent of UK Govt claims. ‘Reform’ - great word for politicians to use in avoiding requirement for more funding. Focus on primary care & prevention are good, but won’t overcome persistent neglect.

Another ‘retirement weekend’ starts today,yes Thursday! Off to Braemar (yes, the coldest town in Britain!) and then Pitlochry, to see Sound of Music at its delightful theatre. Then back to Aberdeen via Glamis Xmas market. It’s a birthday treat. There’s a Beatles song with the number in the title!

Thanks all for wonderful welcomes to Bluesky. I will soon start messaging, mostly about health economics and health policy. I had no issues on X in that regard. It was mainly the rest of the toxicity around it that bugged me. Looking forward to critically-constructive chats.
