the absolute state of things, in one image

I really hate it when discussants pivot to politics because they don't like the physics 😘.

Sorry, that's a straw man. Degrowth is not aimed at the audiences you suggest and an hour's reading would demonstrate that.

I simply don't know how you jump to this unfounded conclusion.

The entire point of degrowth is that rich nations stop growing to allow the poorest the climate and resource headroom to grow and secure their own futures.

I don't know why this is so hard to digest tbh.

I mean, every single one of those countries is adding to accumulated CO2e - which is what drives climate change, not the annual marginal changes which are decreasing *in proportion to growth*

All this would be much easier to sort without damaging investments in AI, sorry, growth.

Now present them by total MT of CO2e and add China 🤢

I'm not suggesting there's been zero progress but it's nowhere near enough - but people like Noah Effing Smith are out there pretending it is.

Have you read the Guardian piece? It's not very in depth but makes clear that all that matters is aggregate emissions so by-country assessments just confuse things. My graph is better than your graphs 😀 (for this).

Brown would do it.

Best piece of merch ever this.

Oh yes, it's all bonkers. Everyone seems to have drunk the Kool Aid.

I would have thought Google is more insulated than most from the potential/inevitable crash. Long term at least.

This is the same tech that all the software engineering influencers on X are telling you to use to open PRs to your codebase without reviewing the diffs.

This is a great primer on climate-growth #decoupling and why, even if it's starting to happen, it's too little too late #degrowth

Economic growth is still heating the planet. Is there any way out?
Rising GDP continues to mean more carbon emissions and wider damage to the planet. Can the two be decoupled?

The next time you hear some GDP-climate emissions #decoupling bullshit, just quote this graph.

If we had another century... maybe?

Radio 2 now. That's all.

Speaking as someone who used to follow City through the Kinkladze, Dickov-Goater and Keegan years (and who had to sit v quietly in the home end when Cardiff beat us 3-2), CV but can no longer stand to look at them, this is very on point.

Scary thought ain't it?

oh well done

I saw this horrific advert last night and frankly I tried to make it better by switching the car name around in my head but it made no difference.
