Looking forward to introducing another Victorian secularist song as part of the this evening's @c19qmul.bsky.social Carols in Context event. Alongside more familiar pieces, we'll be singing 'Sympathy.' Two verses received Gladstone's own tick of approval in his copy held at @gladlib.bsky.social

Among everything else, I forgot to congratulate @anniechapman.bsky.social for winning the Arthur Conan Doyle society's award for the year's best academic work on Doyle, for her article on Doyle, medical authority, and *The Idler*. I was on the panel and it was a very tough competition.

Delighted to receive this award! Thanks to the panel and @acdsociety.bsky.social

Impossible to overstate how amazing libraries are.

So much to love about London Tide. The staging and particularly the lighting design were brilliant. What they chose to include/exclude worked well. That said if you don’t like PJ Harvey you might struggle with it!

I’m not going to finish rereading Our Mutual Friend before I see London Tide tomorrow am I…

Thanks! I love it!

Where can I get one?!

Said hello to the Gloucester Candlestick yesterday. Somehow it’s about 11 years since I was thinking about it during my MA. I loved the freedom to think that course afforded me. Happy times

Thanks Caroline! I’m going to have a look and see if it’s on EThOS

Glad to help!

I remember how excited I was by all the options as an undergrad delivered by so many experts, and I wonder what options will be left for my history-loving teen when he gets to that stage
