This is an ad in my feed on IG. It's not being advertised as one, but I love the return of the word processor! This product is being marketed as something to limit distractions while writing. Mine had a swamp-green screen and spellcheck. 4 years of college papers were typed on a screen this size.

Unless you were using LaTeX instead of a wordprocessor. It had drivers for pretty much any of them.

If everything moving on a screen is a sprite then scrolling a wordprocessor or web page much be a lot of fun.

Pencil would be tough for me, but I can respect it!

Fwiw, I learned how to type on a wordprocessor that weighed as much as a teenager.

Actually, if you use Apple, the gap to Linux is quite narrow. I use debian, Apple and win10. I have a 2nd ssd drive in my laptop I run fedora on. I use libreoffice for my wordprocessor and it opens/creates MS documents cleanly.

Better stick to Jim Wordprocessor, I guess.

Whatever happened to Amstrad? They were the very first wordprocessor I ever had and they really had a great product and excellent customer service. They really had a great product and excellent customer service.

We lost these, because some people in the early 2010's thought "what if you pops didn't need to ask you to install wordprocessor, and instead just had to type wordprocessor(.)com into a browser?".

The bit about software and ensuring you archive things in a format that can still be read in 10yrs is crucial.

My radicalizing moment for this was ~1yr after graduating: the company making the wordprocessor i used to write my thesis died. I still have the file, but it's useless.
Do you know how to store data to last decades? Are you overwhelmed by the task of archiving the trans internet?

Introducing TFR’s first guest column, “Archiving Your Trans Microlibrary” by my lovely editor @nobleheroine.bsky.social, a practical guide to the techie side of literary preservation:

The version of our "Minority influence: how can degrowth step up? A contribution to the ecosocialism vs horizontalism debate." At Resilience reads a bit better on some devices (wordprocessor->wordpress format problems with the tables). The content is the same as at the above […]

But PDF is for publishing, not editing... it's the end format.
Any wordprocessor (LibreOffice Writer) can produce good PDF that is fixed and that's the point of this format. If you want something editeable use odf/md/latext...
