Essential reading for those who are not scared to take a fresh look at seemingly familiar things. The #commons are one important way forward as the planetary crisis accelerates & cascades. Community resilience is the key to perpetual adaptation.

Strange coincidence—I discussed this yesterday in my #TransitionDesign class as extreme example of a wicked problem. It illustrates the arrogance of modernist engineers who believed they could fully control nature. In the end, they couldn’t—and instead, triggered a massive, cascading disaster.

That’s why it makes sense to (re)build resilient regional systems—for energy, food & mobility—empower local communities, and nurture collective creativity, while simultaneously slowing the breakdown of global systems. We need complex, emergent and adaptive changemaking strategies. #transitiondesign

Excellent thread. We urgently need to move beyond the model of individual car ownership. And it’s not just about CO₂ — every new car, electric or not, demands vast resources. We’re also facing a resource crisis, and most cities suffer from a loss of public space.

'To put it bluntly, a path to zero emissions that relies on electrifying individual cars is not only the most resource-intensive route to zero emissions, but also the slowest route to that urgent goal'

This is a critical thread — please read it in full. Our planetary systems (environmental, economic, social, political, geopolitical) are under immense stress and nearing collapse. The poorest of the poor are hit hardest.

#TransitionDesign has never been more urgent.
I wrote this a year ago. It stands up pretty well.

In the year since, tho, I think we may have crossed a threshold of inability—as societies and individuals—to fully meet the climate crisis.

Understanding what's changing will help you make better decisions under accelerating climate pressures.

Climate chaos is coming for us.

Some places face bigger risks than others, but no matter where we live, we're gonna struggle to adapt to events like nothing we've seen before.

I'm a climate futurist.

Let me level with you about what this means.

Good quote. I would add that design also needs to engage at different scales—strategically connecting the local and the global. Designers have to learn to think simultaneously across different temporal *and* spatial horizons.

Nice to see my talk at World Design Congress quoted in this roundup.
