In Novosibirsk region independent gas stations which can't get gasoline from refineries are being offered by speculators gasoline but at prices that are 20% higher that the market rates. Reminder that prices at refineries are over 90-100 000 rubles.

And here I thought the 30 year mortgage was a damning indictment of a grossly negligent fiscally mismanaged economy which allows speculators and corporations to run roughshod over regular folk. It seems they have managed to 1up that...

Soooo...why exactly should Mamdani take a call/meeting from this guy?

First, it's not even a week since the election, and he doesn't have his team in place. Next, and I could not be more clear: speculators and landlords don't get a seat at the housing policy table.
Canadian multimillionaire and Shark Tank guy Kevin O'Leary went on TV to say he's upset Zohran won't talk to him: "I and others who invest in real estate have tried to get a meeting to figure out what's rhetoric and what's policy. So far for me it's been crickets."

15 million vacant homes owned by speculators

Less than 780k unhoused people at peak...

The US is criminally insane
There are probably more empty houses on speculation than there are actual armrests on benches and spikes everywhere lol (15+ million)

I can see it now - Subprime loans, Ballon payments and Massive Defaults all over again
Will be a boon for conglomerates and speculators to buy up those loans and jackup prices on available properties
The question is, are WE going to allow it?

“Predatory property speculators are renovicting people out of their homes and running illegal Airbnbs, while new housing is geared to foreign owners and the ultra-wealthy. Property owners are routinely allowed to let abandoned buildings fall apart rather than be forced to make them useable again.”

Sad tax chat with the MT DOR today. I own a charming little retail space, an old home from 1895. But rich people and speculators have driven up the land costs so much that my property tax bill INCREASED by $10,000 this year. It's $2000/mo just to pay the taxes on a 1000 sq ft space

Putting Detroit homes back in the hands of Detroiters.

For too long, out-of-town speculators have bought up homes for cheap, ignored taxes, and mistreated tenants. Those days are coming to an end.

Asset strippers and speculators aren't entrepreneurs. They don't create anything. They're ruthless vultures for whom Thatcherite deregulation presents innumerable carcasses they can pick to the bone.

Patriots don't offer their countries up to be carcasses.

The 2008 financial crisis was caused by the expectation of limitless growth. Prices go up, they told me. No they didn't. Guess what? Speculators went along with the lies, assuming they would win big, and the speculators money was already spent when the lies proved false.

In 1933, the CCF warned that private finance sacrifices the majority to profiteers. The Regina Manifesto, the party's founding policy document, called for public ownership of banks to serve society, not speculators. Today, its lessons are more relevant than ever.

The MHR for Brand better keep a weather eye on the electorate sentiment. Aside from the property speculators I get the feeling the thought of a heap of #seppos invading the Rockingham shire to soak up available housing, prime local school spots, etc., may not be a real winner.
