Thrilled to be among the recipients of the SNSF Starting Grants! Congrats to all the incredible researchers funded this year. Can’t wait to keep exploring how plants grow, sense, and respond to mechanical forces. Plants and biophysics rock!🌱⚛️

Former COS scientist @heikelindner.bsky.social secures an SNSF starting grant to study the role of succulent anatomy in CAM photosynthesis. Congratulations!
I am beyond thrilled (like the screaming and jumping type of thrilled) that my SNSF Starting Grant was funded. I will start my own lab @unibe.ch next year, studying succulent anatomy development and if and how this anatomy is required for efficient CAM photosynthesis in different Kalanchoë species 🌱

Finally, huge thanks to the @snsf.ch for believing in this journey — from postdoc to PI.
Can’t wait to build the lab, the science, and the next generation of parasite biologists.

Thank you @snsf.ch for funding my project, but also for supporting so many other amazing female scientists in this funding round 💪 Thank you also to my SNSF panel!

Happy to share that I have been awarded an SNSF Starting Grant that will allow me to return to @unibas.ch as an assistant professor for five years next summer. I will also be able to hire a team to work with me on a project about treason, democracy, and the rule of law in interwar Czechoslovakia.

Celebratory lab luncheon for Hervé Besançon, who completed his SNSF 🇨🇭 postdoc with us here in La Jolla. In addition to his good cheer and Swiss panache, he made fantastic contributions to our nanovaccine studies

Expert by birthright, Hervé taught proper fondue technique at the chocolate fountain

Several things frustrate me here - the SNSF is credited on these pubs as supporting our research. Yet now want me to pay for this privately, knowing that I have left academia, do not have research funds to pay this, & that I *never* had research funds to pay this as Ambiziones only have their grant.
October 29, 2025 at 2:49 PM
Wow this sucks!!
How do junior PIs cover their publication fees if they cannot use their SNSF money??
October 29, 2025 at 2:44 PM
As a first-time (junior) PI on a grant, it was the first time ever having to pay for my publications. And having never been informed that a grant from the SNSF could not cover these costs, I only found out upon receipt of my financial report after the grant had ended.
October 29, 2025 at 2:41 PM
Apparently I made the mistake of using my SNSF grant money to pay for publications from my Ambizione grant in 2023 and 2024.
Does anyone know of possible solutions for retrospective funding to save me from paying 6800 CHF out of my pocket to the SNSF to cover fees paid to journals in 2023 and 2024?

💨 🦅 Every so often #RedKites die in collisions with #WindTurbines. A study funded by the SNSF shows when and where this happens and what might help.
