i actually honestly do not believe most of the developers who make that kind of shit could make a real, self contained game/gameplay loop with a satisfying beginning/middle/end because they are so used to just making endless bullshit designed for FOMO or adding extra shit postlaunch

to not be intellectually dishonest about it, making it to a playable alpha is *a kind of shipping*. if you say yes and get an interview they'll talk about it, right?

pushing releases in unreal is no special thing compared to other tools so I'm guessing they want ship xp for postlaunch work.

They took heat for their MXT in GTAVO, but that was postlaunch and a slow rollout, so it didn't really effect sales. RDR2Os aggressive MXT basically killed the multiplayer, but RDR2 was marketed mostly on story. Milking their last two games also killed any singleplayer DLCs people were excited for.

The return of transformations, an alternative vehicle option via Extreme Gear boards, dynamic tracks, a build system with impactful-looking perks, actual postlaunch support of some kind (implied to include the return of Sega crossover content), and CROSSPLAY... I can see this really popping off

postlaunch support, wrote off millions, laid of 80% of Harebrained Scheme's workforce, then split it off entirely. All in all it was an absolute shit time to be at HBS, and it's doubtful it'll ever recover its SR: Hong Kong or Battletech chops.

No Man's Sky was released 7 years ago, and it's mindblowing to see how far it has come.

As someone who bought it and played it with satisfaction on day one, the success Hello Games have found during postlaunch makes me incredibly happy. It feels like vindication.
