Not the "best piston-engined fighter ever" (that's possibly the P51D Mustang with Spitfire engine and more advanced aerodynamics); but probably the best to look at and to listen to.

Saw this tonight at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. It's an awe inspiring work that deserves to be experienced in person (even in the nosebleed seats - it's all my wife and I could afford!) Couldn't be more prescient and so incredibly humane and moving. Don't miss it!

Spitfire always had the slight edge. Style & elegance
For a straight up mid 1944 dogfight the MK14 always had an edge over a Mustang P51D, speed, power, stability, turn & climb (not dive & range). Spitfire was a short range interceptor to defend UK.
It was not flying to Berlin
