Page 13. The half-drow sits on the ground, crying and looking up helplessly. The earlier lash has left a weeping gash diagonal on her face. The queen continues to speak: "Watch the light reflect on your golden scales. Dragon blood flows in your veins, child. You are the first child to manifest its power since my great-great-grandmother, the Queen Jyleth'eari. You would do well not to squander that gift, heiress mine." The background is blood red flowing into darkness.

Page 9: "As fr my martial training, I, ah..." the half-drow continues, looking sheepish. The queen cuts in: "You have been using your arcane power using trials meant for testing physical prowess." The half-drow looks caught between alarmed and guilty now, but the queen follows up with, "A blatant disregard of the rules, one that... Utterly amuses me." The queen smiles. "It is to be expected of a scion of mine." The half-drow blushes, completely enchanted. She quickly responds: "Ah! Thank you, your grace! I-If I may ask, um... What of my father?" Page 10: The queen laughs. "Ha. What *of* your "father"?" Confused, the half-drow murmur "But..." "Foolish child," the queen continues, "fretting about the most insignificant of things." The half-drow is even more confused. "Insignificant? But he... I-I thought..." "You truly wish to know?" The queen smiles cruelly, leans forward in her seat. "I disposed of him a long time ago." The half-drow looks on in wide-eyed disbelief. Page 11. Tears start to gather in the half-drow's eyes. "Why... Why would you..." The queen dismisses her heartbroken response. "Need I a reason to slaughter worthless breeding stock? No. But if you are so keen to know..." Her next words are overlaid on a flashback, of a half-drow infant swaddled in crimson cloth, held gently in the arms of drow maids. On the other side, drow guards were restraining a blue-eyed male slave covered in bruises, crying out and reaching for the infant. "He begged me to let him raise you, then attempted to steal you from your crib. Bold, for a lowly human. He paid for it with his life." Page 12. "How could you...?" utters the young half-drow. The queen frowns down at her. "Hm?" "He was my father, no matter what... Why..." The half-drow clutches her chest, looking down, fire sizzling on her knuckles and the tips of her wings. She springs to her feet in thoughtless insolence. "If you hated his blood so much, why did you even keep me around?!" Out of nowhere, a whip cracks across the child's face. It sends her tumbling to the ground and puts out her fire immediately. "Know your place," the queen roars. "Foolish child! Look yourself in the mirror."

Page 5. An older drow woman, presumably a mentor, steps into the dorm. She addresses the half-drow: "Jyl'ithra. To me, child. The queen wishes to hold your audience. Come now, you needn't bring anything." The half-drow follows along, while her narration begins: The queen is my mother. I have never known her. Page 6. The half-drow's narration continues, overlaid on the scene of three drow maids doing her hair and manicure: My parents are very busy, and I used to be a difficult child. But I have changed! I've grown up. I've been training hard. The scene shifts to the half-drow and two drow guards standing before a pair of great doors. On the doors are engraved in gold the elaborate image of two golden dragons breathing fire. The half-drow is shown wearing a dark red dress with a very deep slit in the middle, held together with delicate golden chains. She is also donning ruby red jewelry. She looks nervous. Narration: And now that I have earned it, I can finally meet them. Page 7. The half-drow steps inside, on a red carpet, flanked on both sides by great pillars decorated with curling golden dragons. Before her is the queen's throne, pure gold, also in the image of a golden dragon nursing a great flame. The scene is shot from behind the half-drow, and her backless dress shows off vestigial wings: golden, delicate and likely useless. Page 8: The first panel zooms in on the queen, dressed in similar colors but even more revealing in cut, her robes also held together with thin golden chains and ruby jewelry. She speaks with a projected voice, sonorous and ethereal. "There you are." The half-drow excitedly exclaims, "Mother-" to which the queen immediately chides: "Silence, insolent child. Have you learned no manner? Bow before your queen." Flustered, the half-drow kneels immediately. The queen then asks: "How fares your training." The half-drow responds with: "A-All is good, my queen. I've been studying the ways of the elements... particularly fire, for I am most adept at it out of all..."

Page 1. Two young drow girls engage in practice combat. The older girl, a full-blooded drow, hits the younger one, a half-drow, with her staff and defeats her. She wipes off her sweat, looking down upon the half-drow. "Pathetic half-blood." Page 2. The half-drow tries to sit up, but is stomped back onto the ground with the older girl's boot on her neck. The older girl taunts: "Still not giving up? Beg, and I might do you a favor, killing you right here! That'll save you all the crying about mommy and daddy hating your guts!" The half-drow is trembling on the ground, her hand sizzling. Page 3. The half-drow brings her hand up, casting arcane fire on the older girl's ankle. The older drow screams and jumps off of her. "You dare cheat, you dirty lizard!" she yells. "This is a strictly martial test, you- you-" The half-drow pants, wipes at her face, and softly says, "...You're wrong." Page 4: The older drow girl looks on, shocked, as the fire spreads on the ground around the half-drow. The half-drow slowly stands up, declaring, "My mother and father would not hate me!" It is revealed that the half-drow has iridescent golden scales. Her eyes are also mismatched, one pale blue and one light violet. She seems to be wearing a heavy golden collar. The scene cuts to the drow child soldiers' dormitories. The girls are just sitting around on their bunk beds, reading and bantering.
