Hiked Mt Monadnock yesterday, what an incredible view from the top!

I kicked off a busy day today in Keene at Monadnock Family Services. I left my visit motivated by what I heard and learned from a truly hardworking group of NH patients and providers: the costs and pain of the GOP’s cuts to healthcare are real. I will never quit working to protect your healthcare.

I have 100% come down from a winter ascent on Monadnock to find people starting up in shorts and flip flops.

It was in the fifties at the bottom. The top was an icy wasteland.

Also, flip flops are not mountain hiking footwear in any season.

Mt. Monadnock is such a great day hike. On a clear day, from the summit you can see Mt. Wachusett, in central Massachusetts. It's great to see the No Kings banner unfurled there.

Section of one side of the church, faced with common brick. Two Gothic stained glass windows are trimmed in the light-brown face brick used on the front of the church. A round stained glass window surrounded by multiple concentric circles of molded brick, all set in a square opening bordered with more molded brick. I'm at a loss for words to describe it. Side section of the church with an entrance into a chapel. Again, common brick, face brick, gothic windows, stained glass, and a bit of light brown terra cotta. It's hard not to get emotional looking at it. Entry about the church from the AIA Guide to Chicago. I love this opening section: "The parish dreamed beyond reason, the architect designed beyond budget, and St. Paul's became Chicago's greatest Gothic leap of faith. In a working-class neighborhood of modest homes and flats, the 245-foot towers soared higher than the Loop's Reliance and Monadnock Buildings. Thrillingly out of scale in both size and expense, the construction left the parish deeply in debt and led Archbishop James Quigley to replace the pastor."

Fun fact, Mount Ascutney, shown here, is not part of the Greens, but is a monadnock that has more in common geologically with the granite mountains of New Hampshire across the river.
