a microgeneration that came of age on the unsupervised wilds of aol & social blogging platforms, where we learned to be voicey online... now uninterested in the heyyyy guys narration into front-facing camera/lip synced video way of Being Online.... & twitter is unusable ...... so here we are

i think about al-Zaidi a lot but that's my microgeneration

And we are a "microgeneration" because we are so small.
There was a massive birth rate drop at the time.
I have a hard time finding people my own age.

UK Government has caused some upset by appointing the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) as the sole accreditation body for heat pumps. I think it's actually a good move. www.linkedin.com/posts/richar...

I prefer to call us the “Oregon Trail microgeneration”
i think the commonly accepted range linked to from the millenial page you mentioned is less blunt than "this cohort is one year and eight months for some reason"

given that everyone on Bluesky is from the exact same microgeneration, it's weird that you don't see viral posts about Girl Talk every week

Tidal generation works even in those periods, but yes, that's true.

The money is there for grid upgrades and local microgeneration. We're just spending it on nuclear power and corporate fossil fuel projects/subsidies right now.

Absolutely nationalise them! As soon as possible!

I think stronger community-based living could help here too. We can supplement highly efficient houses with local microgeneration from solar/wind and local energy storage systems, maintained within those communities.

My favorite thing as an elder millennial/Oregon Trail microgeneration is seeing ads targeting me about saving for retirement and immediately thinking, "Lol retirement? You think anyone my age and younger will be able to RETIRE? Bless your heart."

Lag and ironing out response to that is a far bigger issue.

But amusingly none of this is significant if microgeneration becomes the default.

At that point there will be no big energy or finance skimming off everyone.

The cocaine thing is probably less of a gap among my microgeneration (Oregon Trail/Xennial) because we're also the cohort that read SWEET VALLEY HIGH and iykyk

Also need policies for microgeneration (ie PV, battery storage, and elec boilers in all new builds) and incentives for local co-operatives to start energy companies by renting large roof spaces for PV panels.

Someone get these ill informed children off our internet. And technically, if you were born before 85, you’re a part of a microgeneration called Xennials. #1984

Being that particular microgeneration that had a no-tech childhood and a high-tech rest of it really does make you sound 80 at 40.
Computers didn't even have CD trays yet and you'd be lucky to find writable DVDs in a hardware or electronics store, if you could even afford them. It was a very popular contest!

which precise microgeneration of tories do you mean?

Someone pulled the pin. 🤣

But yes. The Oregon Trail microgeneration rocks.

This seems completely reasonable. The move to EVs, air conditioning and heat pumps, is increasing electricity demand, and microgeneration only offsets a small amount of it.

I'm of the microgeneration educated during the mimeograph/ditto-to-printout transition, so it's weird to see how quickly older print technologies have gone down the memory hole: Everyone my age and older had concrete examples at school of movable type's inferiority, and we totally missed it.

quit trying to classify my microgeneration and forgive my student loans

sure is!!!! and Captain Star is Academy Award nominee Richard E. Grant

Captain Star was beauty but only like a microgeneration of Canadians and Britons ever saw it

@stephenjudkins.bsky.social I'm of the Xennial Microgeneration, with Gen X cynicism and Millennial rage. You probably don't want my opinions on generations, or anything else.

Immerwahr's article is a sequel, as it were, to one I wrote on pirates for the magazine in 2009. Every microgeneration gets the New Yorker pop history of pirates it deserves.
Bootylicious
What do the pirates of yore tell us about their modern counterparts?

I’m fond of the newish term of Xillennials, which is my “microgeneration,” marking a transitional period between Gen X and the Millennials
November 14, 2023 at 1:34 PM
That, and we’re both a part of the Oregon Trail microgeneration, if you will.
