#legacyquel
To put it another way: “Why are Lilo and Stitch and Freakier Friday bigger hits this year for Disney than Snow White was?”

And why does it feel like “Badlands” is working because it’s being sold as a prequel to “Prey” rather than a legacyquel to “Predator?”

Obviously Dante would not have wanted to do this anyway, puppets being a chore for him to work with after all, but you cannot possibly get me excited over a non-Dante Gremlins legacyquel even with Columbus at the helm.
‘GREMLINS 3’ will release on November 19, 2027 in theaters.

Chris Columbus will return to direct.

I think it should be a legacyquel thing directed by Shawn Levy where Gizmo is a depressed has-been who teams up with Lenny (he’s good now) and some That Amblin Feel-style teens to take on a back-from-the-dead Brain Gremlin, now voiced by Ryan Reynolds. And it looks really washed out for some reason.

My Dinner with Andre legacyquel where Wallace Shawn sups with André Gregory, André 3000, Eric André, and José Andrés

Whoa, that is one legacyquel I did not see coming! I'm cautiously excited though?

You know, Ron Howard coulda just made a Parenthood legacyquel or something, but nooooo

Scream 7: puukkohippa mut hei meil on Neve Campbell!

SCREAM 7 sure looks like the lazy retread legacyquel that 5 and 6 nimbly avoided turning into. Maybe I'd be willing to cut it some slack and just enjoy another go-round with these characters, but the Melissa Barrera stuff killed most any goodwill I might've had for this series.

Up until the third act’s legacyquel nonsense, TRON: Ares feels even closer to a dumb 2010 blockbuster than Legacy did. And a cute romance, too? But Leto is laughably pathetic, and I could think of 100 ways to fix the film’s nonexistent stance on AI. Glad I saw it in audiovisually oppressive IMAX 3D!

Ça me va.

As much as I am also skeptical of any franchise stuff these days, I think the studios are a bit skittish about the legacyquel - there have been more bombs than successes in that regard (see ARES, TRON). I feel like this is Hill wanting to leave his mark on the franchise at the end of his career.

Seriously, Alien 5 with possibly the participation of one or more characters who can live a long time (David, the hybrids from Alien Earth, Andy from Alien Romulus, Call from Resurrection), is the only legacyquel that interests me. There is potential, even if great movies are necessarily a miracle.🤷

First Omen was insanely good, way better than the average legacyquel

This morning's film: Spinal Tap II! Perhaps as good as it could reasonably be under the circumstances, unburdened by reverence for the original and not hellbent on rehashing every line either. An unplugged legacyquel, whose best, funniest one-liner should haunt the makers of Deliver Me From Nowhere.

Spinal Tap II - It was always going to be too late for Reiner to craft a worthy sequel to sheer genius, but it’s sad that the Tap trio have soured with age too. Not without streaks of brilliant stupidity, it suffers from the usual symptoms of legacyquel-itis. Humour for the easily humoured boomers.

I do appreciate that Disney is giving me, a man in his late forties, a new NIN album in the form of a Tron Legacyquel.

Trying to convince my buddy Bill to work with me on an IDLE HANDS legacyquel script. You know it’s going to happen, 90s nostalgia has already come this fucking far!

Despite some of the choppiest editing I've seen from a major studio release in an age, and lacking the performance specificity which made the 2003 one a comedy classic, I had good fun with this legacyquel! About as good as could've been expected, really. #FreakierFriday #FilmSky

Netflix really scored a hole in one with Happy Gilmore 2, the Adam Sandler legacyquel that can’t stop setting course records.
