LCC Faculty Colleagues – Your LCCEA faculty bargaining leads met with the Administration again today for bargaining. After faculty in the LPN (i.e., Licensed Practical Nursing) program learned last week that the highly successful program would not be offered next year despite the large number of student applicants awaiting an orientation that would have happened today, LCCEA demanded to bargain over the impacts.

Members gathered at Bier Stein in Eugene on Thursday to celebrate the start of fall term and to share smiles and stories of summer. Thank you to the LCCEA Membership Committee, who organized the event!

LCC Faculty Colleagues, Yet again, your LCCEA Bargaining Team Leads, now also including OEA consultant Kellen Wilson, met with the College to discuss ground rules. We are absolutely astonished and appalled that the College continues to delay bargaining in order to continue ground rules discussions of who can and cannot observe bargaining and by what means. We have exchanged 14 ground rules proposals.

In response to a surprising action item added to Tuesday’s LCC Board of Education agenda, LCCEA President Adrienne Mitchell has written a letter (below) to Board members calling for adherence to the law and multiple Board policies. Esteemed Board of Education Members, I’m writing to report concerns about information shared at the all-campus inservice and now included in an agenda item on your September 30 Board meeting.

At their informational hearing today, Adrienne Mitchell, LCCEA President & OEA Community College Council Vice President, provided invited testimony to the Oregon House Committee on Higher Education and Workforce Development. Mitchell provided information about teaching and learning conditions at community colleges, and advocated for increased funding for community colleges, part-time pay parity, and addressing student needs. “The community college system is critical to economic and workforce development, providing students who would otherwise have no access to higher education a means to break out of generational poverty.

Based upon new information in emails provided in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, it is clear that the dilemma has risen to the level of a real crisis of democracy where the publicly-elected Board of Education members who represent the people of Lane County and the public at-large have been sidelined.
