I use it to double-bounce my DNS requests because I'm a big dumb paranoid bitch about HTTPS and (to my understanding) TLS doesn't sufficiently obscure the fact that you're making a DNS request even if it encrypts the content
Makes that kind of stuff simple.

Going to put on an impromptu 🧵/clinic about breaking down VPN Marketing vs Reality because I feel this can benefit from some nuanced analysis.
£ Is VPN a Panacea?
✓ No. It asymmetrically encrypts your device traffic, sends it into your network, then out to your ISP, who sends it to the VPN server.

Also, the phones/transmissions themselves are a security risk. AFAIK can be picked up just before Signal encrypts a message.

Stalwart has Proton-like on-receipt encryption which encrypts incoming messages against a destination’s public PGP key. I’m not sure I have the willpower to self-host email but it’ll be tempting once it gains calendar/contact syncing and push on iOS.

Signal is NOT a defective or insecure app. It encrypts end-to-end communication, but it doesn’t encrypt what’s on your phone - it doesn’t encrypt what you type as you type it.
It ALSO doesn’t magically protect you from being a dumbass and inviting journalists to your war plan group texts 🤣🤣🤣
