On this date in 2017, we had traveled over a thousand miles each way, from San Diego to Scio, Oregon, to watch a total eclipse of the Sun. #Eclipse2017

Fun fact: "what colour is the sun?" seems like an easy question with an obvious answer (yellow, duh! 🌞). But it depends on how you define colour, for example, most the energy the sun emits is ~500 nm which means you could argue the sun is blue-green-ish!

Composite image of my view of the 2017 eclipse. Most traffic I have ever seen in my life after. Worth it.

..."So, the sun actually emits energy at all wavelengths from radio to gamma ray. But, as can be seen in the image above, it emits most of its energy around 500 nm, which is close to blue-green light. So one might say that the sun is blue-green!"

From NASA:
"the diameter of our moon is about ½ a degree and the Andromeda galaxy is about 3 degrees across … the moon, which is only about 3,400 km in diameter and the Andromeda Galaxy, which is over 100,000 light years in diameter, seem comparable in size!"

In 2017, we traveled over a thousand miles each way, from San Diego California Scio, Oregon, to watch a total eclipse of the Sun. We chose a place with one of the longest times of totality. Did you see it? #Eclipse2017

Just from at total eclipse you get a serious temperature drop. Idk what things would look like if you extrapolated that line down for 72 straight hours.

Super late reply but NASA actually said they should still be good if the filter isn't damaged. Can still use them for future partial/total eclipses! eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety

I have enjoyed seeing y'all's #eclipse photos today. I sadly was unable to make this one, but i got some banger photos (even if I did forget to shoot RAW) of the one in 2017 which conveniently happened right over my brother's house!

listening to beeb news presenters describing the eclipse and adding they haven't experienced it themselves is mildly funny. no mention of the racing shadow bands so far.
(was lucky to see them during a proper eclipse back in 1999)

And, hark! This NASA page from 2017 shows the "Loughcrew Cairn L Megalithic Monument in Ireland, and discovered that a set of spiral-shaped petroglyphs that might correspond to a solar eclipse which occurred on November 30, 3340 BCE."

Reminder: Do not use a welder's helmet to view the eclipse if your welder visor has a Shade rating below 12. At least this is NASA's recommendation.

If you can get to the eclipse tomorrow, don’t miss it. My pics from the 2017 eclipse in Oregon don’t do it justice, but I hope they’ll give you an idea of what an incredible experience eclipses are. photos.chamilton.me/Travel/2017/... #Eclipse #Eclipse2017 #Oregon #SalemOregon

The Amtrak trains leaving Salem today (8/21/17) were completely full, but the trip was well worth it. A total eclipse is an experience not to be missed, but it's more than an astronomical phenomenon--...
