Love it so much when old computers find new ways to torment me. It keeps doing this at the very end of the DOS installation. It's a 512MB CompactFlash drive. The 256MB one worked fine. Maybe different geometry to make the recognised capacity smaller will work.

Looking on eBay for additional CompactFlash cards and this is the most sus photo I've ever seen. Almost want to buy it to see how dodgy it actually is. 🤣

USB Type B (full-size) is a good connector and CompactFlash is the perfect size for removable storage media. Personal technology should be operating on that scale of things.
I will die on this hill.

Also I installed a CompactFlash 128MB "Hard-drive" in it. So I just preload it with software lol. All Dos. It's just an 8088 afterall.

nice, consider me jealous! two things I would like to see on the A600: being able to use PCMCIA with Kickstart 1.3 and of course booting the system from CompactFlash just like you do.

SD cards adapters do work, but they might add some extra issues because the adapters have to do well, adapting. And since CompactFlash is basically IDE with a different pinout it should be less trouble.

The hard drive made some loud scraping noises. My next test will be to see if it will boot off of a USB flash drive (no guarantees), and then after that, figure out if I will need to buy a replacement setup. CompactFlash is also an option, BTW. https://t.co/aZ0w1zuglp

I'm starting off
#ShittyCameraChallenge in easy mode- with my EasyShare
DX4900. I haven't tried hooking it up to its docking station yet, but at least it uses CompactFlash memory cards and AA batteries, which are both functional for me.
First picture is a cat, of course.

Audrey had a touchscreen LCD interface and came equipped with a stylus. It was powered by a 200 MHz Geode GX1 CPU, with 16 MB of flash ROM and 32 MB of RAM, a modem, two USB ports, and a CompactFlash socket for connectivity. Available in colors - "linen", "meadow", "ocean", "slate", and "sunshine"

I'm not the first person to ever do this. There's a thread on MacRumors featuring a bunch of people comparing the speeds of their SSD/CompactFlash setups running on old PowerPC comps. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/post-your-ssd-cf-sata-pata-powerpc-benchmark-results.2063361/

Gemäss Wikipedia gibt es zwei Typen CompactFlash:
CF-Typ I (36,4 mm × 42,8 mm × 3,3 mm)
CF-Typ II (36,4 mm × 42,8 mm × 5,0 mm)
Der einzige Unterschied ist die Dicke der Bauform. Daher funktionieren Typ-I-Karten auch in einem Typ-II-Slot.

Finally got round to replacing the PSU on the Amiga 1200, mainly as I wanted to see if the mechanical HDD in it is still functional after so long out of use (this is next on the list to be replaced by SD/CompactFlash). I am happy to confirm it all still works! :D

Time I started thinking about dusting off my old Canon EOS 400D DSLR.
Haven’t used it in YEARS (hell it still uses CompactFlash fer goodness sake!).
But I loved it, and still do.

Hmm, i think the first MP3 player i had was not solid state... it was the SSI Neo25, a hard disk based player. Later i switched to the Rio Karma. I converted the Karma to CompactFlash, it's probably in a drawer around here somewhere.

Ancient tech spotted in the office. 1GB microdrive — yes, spinning rust — in a CompactFlash module slotted into a PC Card adapter. From the days before cheap flash memory, SD Card dominance, and the USB-C peripheral ecosystem. #RetroComputing
