No, I use firefox inside a whonix vm. I tried it with the TOR Browser too but facebook/insta are pretty unusable in the TOR-Browser because it forces you do an absurd amount of captchas and won't even work if you solve them, so I am surprised that just plain out of the box firefox works.

I use Whonix (on a virtual machine), Psiphon or good old fashioned TOR. free YMMV

Signal org sucked listening to user input. We pleaded with Moxie to make Signal Tor friendly and to allow for accounts by username rather than phone #. They refused to listen. Hence, many moved to Wire, which is easy for encrypted single or group text messaging that is torified through Whonix.
Signal is 100% encrypted. In the past, you could use it for encrypted comms across Signal and standard unecnrypted SMS. A concern was raised about accidental unecnrypted comms across Signal, hence the excuse for removing unecnrypted SMS. However, we regularly used Signal for both.

Whonix has it's own appeal. Isn't an integrated component of Qubes? Btw whatever image writer I'm using is taking forever. However, this version of mint seems to support my hardware
