Wave or Particle ~ I bgan by painting 2 large squares side by side, & continued overlaying more elements. As it got more complex & looking less dualistic, I thought of the concept in quantum mechanics where matter is either a wave or particle depending on how the viewer sees it. #art #painting

But today was just a motivational introduction. Planck, Einstein, Rutherford, de Broglie, Heisenberg, Schrödinger, Born. Particles have wave-like properties, waves have particle-like properties. Wave function collapse, the measurement problem and the reality problem. Pretty action-packed, honestly.

“Life is strong and fragile.
It's a paradox.... It's both things, like quantum physics: It's a particle and a wave at the same time. It all exists all together.”
- Joan Jett

Take care 🫶🏻🌹

Have a day that’s perfect for you ⭐️💛🤗

As light is both a wave and a particle, these are both categories and a spectrum

Came across this on Pinterest this morning, and it made me cry. It's genuinely beautiful.

If you can't read the text on the image, its alt-ed over two posts because it's long.

See, these theories carry with them implicit parts that we often ignore and forget to question. Someone says "particle" and you think of a little ball that's generally quite round. You think wave, you probably see either a sine wave or like an ocean wave... maybe a criss crossing pattern of density.

Wave function collapse/Akashic 101:

+ describes the behavior of particles at the quantum level
+ particles exist in a superposition of multiple states until they are observed or measured
+ wave function encodes the probabilities of the different possible states that the particle can be in

None of these things are "really" particles.

They simply *are*, and our best mathematical model of them is a thing called a Quantum Field - and it in some cases behaves more like a wave, and in other circumstances more like a particle.

Indeed, is it a particle or a flaccid wave?

Louis de Broglie is my favourite

Or Prince Louis de Broglie to use his full title

Got a Nobel Prize for his PhD on Wave Particle duality

His PhD thesis was one (1) page long

SEE YOU IN 2 MONTHS
Here’s how:
Scientists have discovered that all matter can behave like a particle or wave. Waves can be in a bunch of places at once. Particles can tunnel, or teleport. That’s how I can be in many places at once on Christmas Eve.
A gentle reminder:
Love is the greatest gift :-)}

Is light a particle, a wave, or just magic? When the sun's at just the right angle this time of year, it comes through the little control cord holes in my den Venetian blind like lenses in a pinhole camera. Voila, a ribbon of many suns on a wall, a throw, a chair. I amuse easily.

I mean saying that it is a particle is not the problem here. Everything is a particle via wave particle duality. The problem is that wave DM has significantly different small scale physics (eg anisotropic pressure and non zero jeans length) which is better modelled using wave dynamics.

#Nuclear produces ever, ever waste.
Wind, wave, solar, tidal, hydro, thermal do not.
Don’t forget this.
Latest in long line of particle discoveries in the area. Dounreay built in1950s, & in 1960s & 1970s sand-sized particles of irradiated nuclear fuel got into drainage system.

The way light reflects and refracts from water, esp. near the coast, has a lot to do with the sediment ( and other) particles suspended in them. What I didn't realize was that the waves can orient the particles, and thus how light behaves. 🧪🌊

It’s hilarious to see the (wonderful) No Kings protest movement become the wave/particle of activism, either a normie boomer-hippie snoozer or a Black Bloc anarchist melee, depending on who is looking at it

"it's a wave until you look at it and then it's a particle"

No, it's neither a wave nor a particle; it's a quantum field and it behaves like a quantum field.

Well you see light is a wave but also a particle

Impressive stuff.

I think I understand some of it. They demonstrated.

Billions of Superconducting electrons acting like a single particle

Tunneling through a barrier like a wave of water passing through a wall

Dialed into on/off states that can communicate information
