Mostly through theory of interactivity! I was digging around in sig-chi in 1997-98 for my first work in tech and there was a lot of VRML writing that referenced her

I love these posts. It reminds me of Cybertown. It was a program from the 90s where you could use VRML to make a virtual apartment and "move" to cybertown. You could invite friends over, chat, etc. It was like The Palace, but you had your own apartment. I can't believe VRML is obsolete. It was fun.

Many years ago I did some work on blind accessibility in VR using VRML and X3D www.seeingwithsound.com/winvrml.htm Beware that many of the old external links are now broken, but the completely general interface with The vOICe for Windows still works.

I feel that people who have experienced VRML are highly innoculated against wanting to experience the Metaverse.

it took up the entire tigerdirect catalog except for one page that was strictly dedicated to VRML

Remember the 1990s virtual boy and VRML? VRML was a fuckin trip. Went absolutely nowhere.

oh gosh yeah I've been dreaming of that kind of thing. Shared embedding code could help a lot too - like I was thinking about how cool it would be to have a modern VRML shaped thing that does GLTF rendering right in the bsky feed

@garbaek.dk

luckily the backgrounds are easier to get!
unlike Conker, Castlevania 64, and other games with huge worlds, dumping the vrml with Lemmy just standing anywhere still gives us the whole map complete! I also found out that the radar used 3d models and not sprites lmao.

#VRML was light years ahead of its time. The visuals were cool enough, but spatialised realtime event-driven audio in 90s browsers? We had it too good.
