I imagine it's a regional difference.
I got into FF7 very late, while TR2 was one of the earliest titles I had the pleasure of playing through.
In online spaces the experiences can also be rather skewed due to media/YTers. Like, I cannot relate to the whole "getting N64 for xmas" nostalgia hype.

The guy doing the TR2 remaster did such a great job on the Great Wall level. It was annoying when CD did a cease and desist on him as they knew he was doing it and could see the positive reaction it gained. They know the fans want these games. Why can’t they actually take proper notice?

I was quite pleasantly surprised with the underwater controls in TR1, I felt more in control underwater than on land. The Cistern ended up being a favorite level of mine. TR2 hasn't been unfair so far (although the new flare mechanic is a nightmare for my stingy ass).
