I am writing as a concerned citizen, parent, and public school teacher. I am concerned for the students of Colorado, particularly those in the most vulnerable groups such as minorities, those with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ students. These students are already at risk for alienation and attack. The executive orders of our current president are very concerning to me as they appear to be emboldening those who share his bigoted and backward views. I am concerned about the new Department of Education DEI hotline to “report” public schools that have diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. Any public school that welcomes all students must do just that, welcome ALL students. Whatever their race, ethnicity, ability level, orientation or identity as an education professional it is my duty to make sure my students thrive. It is my hope that Colorado will stand up for what is right and just and stand by these students. That Colorado will not allow its teachers or students to be bullied or penalized by unjust orders or laws. What is Colorado going to do to make sure its students and teachers from unjust accusations?

I am writing to encourage you to vote no on the Republican Continuing Resolution. Almost every House Democrat stood united and voted NO on this CR. Now it’s time for Senate Democratic senators to take a stand and oppose this outrageous bill. You must use your leverage, hold the line, and insist on a clean, short-term CR that keeps the government open without giving Trump and Musk a blank check.  If Democrats are unified in support of a short-term CR and Republicans choose to shut down the government rather than agree to their reasonable demands, Republicans will own the shutdown. Then, Democrats can use the March recess to hold those Republicans accountable and make their time in-district as painful as possible, so that they’re forced to negotiate a funding bill that includes ironclad safeguards to rein in Trump and Musk and protects essential programs.  American citizens need some hope that there are people in Washington that will not let Trump and Musk run this country into the ground, unchecked and without consequence.
