'Blossoms Shanghai' Review: One of the Greatest Directors Ever Delivers a Stunning but Flawed TV Drama
Wong Kar-wai's Blossoms Shanghai is visually stunning with strong performances, but struggles to reach the heights of his cinematic masterpieces.

I don’t have #TCM. I do have #TheCriterionChannel, and this is the first time I can think of where Criterion didn’t come through immediately with a tribute collection for a major filmmaker after their recent passing.

📽️Winter Kills is perhaps the most bonkers of the 70s paranoid thrillers series. Young Jeff Bridges yelling DAD YOU STINK after riding away on a horse into a picturesque distance, shirt unbuttoned - what a strange moment in a movie full of strange moments. #thecriterionchannel

📽️Have watched so many Altman movies on #thecriterionchannel this month
3 Women (re-watch)
Brewster McCloud
Nashville
The Long Goodbye (re-watch)
Fool for Love
Gosford Park (re-watch)
still wanna see McCAbe & Mrs. Miller & Secret Honor & Quintet & re-watch Jimmy Dean

📽️Watching Pakula's "paranoia trilogy" on #thecriterionchannel & I'm on Parallax View, which is terrifying. The company montage sequence, whew. The use of the environment to add to the suspense is fantastic.

📽️I was not prepared for how insane, in the best way, Brewster McCloud is. #thecriterionchannel

📽️Damn, watching Deep Cover on #thecriterionchannel & god do I love an undercover cop psychological drama & something so specific to a time and place.

📽️Finally watching Loving Highsmith on #thecriterionchannel. Re-watched all the Ripleys & watched Purple Noon for the first time. Still adore Talented Mr. Ripley & Ripley's Game, Love Bruno Ganz in The American Friend, & Purple Noon is gorgeous but I don't quite get Delon's Ripley.

📽️Watching The Graduate from The Pool collection on #thecriterionchannel. I have seen it before when I went through my watching every classic film I can stage in my early 20s, but it's been about twenty years so curious how it lands now.

📽️Okay, more pool movies from #thecriterionchannel. Watched La Piscine, somehow had not seen before despite being a basic bitch francophile who loves Jane Birkin & Alain Delon. Everybody is very beautiful & tan. Very French. 10/10.

📽️Been watching The Great Dictator (1940) on #thecriterionchannel with my son and it's hard to imagine something like this being made now. It creates such an intensely confused feeling while watching it - I can't wrap my head around how it works so well, but it's riveting.

#NowWatching EBIRAH, HORROR OF THE DEEP on #TheCriterionChannel. Classic! The underwater battle between Ebirah and Godzilla accompanied by some Duane Eddy-like guitar music is a hoot.

I forgot that Mothra showed up in this movie.

Seriously @criterion.bsky.social, what’s up with the closed captions on the Criterion 24/7 live stream?!?

Anyone else having issues? I’ve seen nothing but gibberish coming across the screen for the past few days.
