Listening to Metro Morning’s traffic report, you’d think every driver in Toronto should be given a mandatory two week refresher on how to navigate streets when there is snow on the ground. If you don’t pass, your licence is taken away until Spring.

Don’t let anyone tell you that streets need to be kept for cars.

Huge win for the neighbourhood. Very real ability to #CopyAndPaste in multiple neighbourhoods.
If we’re losing the ability target unsafe drivers w/ ASE, redesigning street to blunt speed is the next best thing.
The City is making additional changes to improve safety, enhance the public realm and create predictable travel behaviour. Changes include pedestrian crossing improvements and sidewalk widening on Kintyre Avenue. In addition, the City is redesigning Thompson Street between Carroll Street and the Lane East of Carroll Street that is now closed to motor vehicles to create a more seamless connection to Joel Weeks Park. Thompson Street Redesign Thompson Street will be redesigned to reflect the permanent closure to motor vehicles. The proposed changes include: • New street trees and low plantings • New landscape design to create a seamless connection to Joel Weeks Park • Maintained east-west access for pedestrians and people biking • No impact to on-street parking Images of Existing Condition and Planned Park Extension of street redesign Thompson Street Plan View With map of full area with redesign changes

Heather D'Amour My husband was hit by a car near Queen and Broadview (at Baseball Place) when he was riding his bike home from work today. The woman who hit him was driving a white Mercedes. We have reported the incident to the police, but he was quite shaken up since his bike was broken in half, and he forgot to get the details of the witnesses who stopped to check on him. If anyone happened to witness this, please DM me.

She is a co-founder of UofT Coders, a group for graduate students to teach each other programming skills in a supportive peer environment. You can find her on Bluesky at @mbonsma.bsky.social or riding around Toronto with her family on her beloved cargo bikes. Albert Koehl is Coordinator of Community Bikeways and the Coalition to Reduce Auto Size Hazards (CRASH). He is the author of Wheeling Through Toronto: A History of the Bicycle and Its Riders, published by the U of T Press. In a career that spans 30 years as an environmental and human rights lawyer he has worked for legal aid clinics, the Ministry of Environment, the United Nations in Guatemala, and the non-profit Ecojustice. He takes particular pride in his role advocating for bike lanes on Bloor Street, which are today part of the city's longest bike lane stretching from Scarborough to Etobicoke.
