I loved this new book by Shani Evans at Rice. It's an important theoretical contribution to our understanding of space and race within a detailed ethnographic account of change in a (formerly) Black neighborhood in Portland, OR. #socsky #academicsky @ricesocsci.bsky.social

Miguel Montalva Barba will be at #ESS2025! Don’t miss his talk on White Supremacy & White Spacemaking.

His book explores how white progressives sustain racial inequality in Jamaica Plain through property, education, and the White child as a tool for resource hoarding.

Make sure to check them out!

The downside to being camp, snippy and a cyclist is that sometimes on a shared space I have to fight the urge to stop, clap, and claim "Bravo! Bravo! Oh! Castling seamlessly transitioning into a Dug Yank! A novel combo! Sublime! Never have I seen such inefficient spacemaking!"
