It physically pains me knowing Guillermo Del Toro has finished screenplays for At the Mountains of Madness and “a western adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo” that have gone unproduced.

The idea that writing is unskilled and has no barrier to entry is so funny to me. I developed the skills to write screenplays, wrote a lot of them, got some made even!
And I've struggled consistently to turn that into prose fiction I am not embarrassed by. Even writing doesn't translate to writing!

I guess my question to these people, who say 'I want to make a film/anime/videogame but don't have the ability to, so I write because it's unskilled and has no barrier to entry' is, who do you anticipate will read your book? Do you know how to make your writing appealing and interesting to readers?

I've been trying to write two screenplays this year and despite getting far into both, I don't like them yet. A friend encouraged me to revisit some Star Wars idea I had a few years back and "write it to see if you can hone in your skills."
I was gonna do a few scenes. I'll finish Act 1 tonight.

Actually, this isn’t a Don Bluth film (I’ve definitely made this mistake before), but it IS written by the same guy who wrote the screenplays for Oscar winning films Moonstruck AND Doubt. So uh…yeah.
Also, the saddest most unhinged Don Bluth film is We’re Back. It’s a bucket of nightmare fuel, and I still get sad every time Screweyes asks not to be left behind with his own crows.

I'm so baffled by some of the nonsense being taught to aspiring screenwriters because most of it can be refuted by... reading screenplays.
