“SALTCROP is a distinctive, ambitious, smart novel, and its fable-like tone enables it to end with a fable-like promise about the power of individual agency in a time of systemic breakdown” @niallharrison reviews @yumewrites.bsky.social

Good news first - as of two weeks ago, Saltcrop is getting a second printing. That’s amazing. Thank you for your support!!!

The bad news is it’s been out of stock for two weeks at Ingram, a major book distributor, which is pretty agonizing. 😓😓😓

The FOMO finally got me and I subscribed to @aardvarkbookclub.bsky.social. My first pick was Saltcrop by Yume Kitasei; described as part eco-thriller, part sisterhood epic with dystopian elements. I’m super excited to dive in! Thanks Aardvark! I look forward to seeing next months picks! #booksky

I wrote about five (or six??) fall speculative mysteries and thrillers for @crimereads.bsky.social: SALTCROP, A MOUTHFUL OF DUST, BOG QUEEN, THE UNVEILING, and the Saga double RED STAR HUSTLE/APPREHENSION, in case your TBR needs to be a little taller!

I'm all better now but sadly not in time to make it out for the event in Seattle tonight with Wendy Wagner We are working on rescheduling. Stay tuned! I'm so sorry. I can't tell you how disappointed I am to have missed three stops, but I'm relieved to be otherwise back on track.

The incomparable Yume Kitasei has done it again!! A brilliant novel about sisters willing to sail to the ends of the earth to find each other, through a world transformed by climate disaster. Immersive and funny as well as being simply beautifully written. Don’t miss it!!! @yumewrites.bsky.social

How can two people raised the same way turn out so different? And what does it mean when they separate? @yumewrites.bsky.social, author of Saltcrop and The Deep Sky, highlights five books about searching for a lost sibling:

I love sibling stories, and Saltcrop by Yume Kitasei is a good one. It features 3 sisters, each with different dreams and goals, brought together by the eldest's disappearance in a dystopian future world.
