Niël Terblanché NamWater confirmed that repair work on the burst section of the Von Bach–Windhoek transfer pipeline was completed in the early hours of Thursday morning. According to Lot Ndamanomhata, the spokesperson of NamWater, the repair was finalised around 05:00, after which a controlled refilling of the pipeline commenced. “The outflow from Booster 2 to the Windhoek Terminal Reservoir has now been steadily ramped up to 600 cubic metres per hour, with an outlet pressure of 63 metres,” he said in a statement. He added that this cautious approach, the utility added, is necessary to maintain system stability and avoid placing additional strain on the infrastructure. Initially expected to be completed by 22:00 the previous night, the repair was delayed due to the discovery of a crack in the pipe. “An additional coupling had to be installed and bolts securely tightened to reinforce the joint,” Ndamanomhata explained. He added that the additional work was required to ensure the long-term stability of the affected section. Ndamanomhata reiterated the importance of the Von Bach–Windhoek pipeline, describing it as a strategic national asset. He added that a project to replace the weakened portion of the pipe is scheduled for later this year and will be prioritised to safeguard the Namibian capital’s water supply. He said that the national water utility will continue to monitor the system, and he promised to issue further updates as the network returns to full operational capacity. Ndamanomhata also extended its appreciation to residents and stakeholders for their patience during the interruption.
